Dead fish lie along a portion of shoreline on Madison Lake. Scores of dead fish, including trophy-sized walleyes and northerns, were discovered shortly after ice-out. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources estimated the die-of at 150-175 fish and limited to the town bay. The advanced state of decay of the fish prevented DNR staff from determining the cause but they speculated that localized low oxygen levels near a culvert may have been responsible. The DNR is asking that anyone finding dead or dying fish on area lakes call 507-362-4223.
