Scarlet tanagers
A pair of scarlet tanagers sit on a pile of branches Thursday in Mankato. The songbirds are commonly found in oak forests during summer, but in spring they sometimes hunt for insects in more open areas, including roadsides, gardens and lawns. The females are yellow. Photo by Pat Christman
