From left, Craig Beckman, Randy Schoeneck and Pat Kraus of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Parks and Trails Division install clean-and-drain area at the German Lake public access earlier this week, last week. More than 200 of the areas are being placed at public lake access sites throughout the state to provide boaters with designated areas and a visible reminders to clean vegetation and drain water from their watercraft in an effort to prevent the further spread of aquatic invasive species. Access sites also now are being equipped with compost bins like the one visible at left where vegetation and unwanted bait can be discarded. The bins are not intended for garbage disposal, however.
